Only elected govt can solve all problems, says Tarique

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that only an elected government can solve all problems.
He stated, "There has been a movement, the government has fallen. Now we have to rebuild the country. For the past 15 years, there had been sham elections. In the coming days, if representatives are elected democratically, there will be development in the country and in local areas. To develop both the area and the country, a government must be formed through votes."
He added, "Not only national elections, but governments must also be formed through voting in all elections, including Union Parishads. Only then you will be able to speak about your own suffering and hardships."
Tarique Rahman made these remarks at a rally held on Friday in the capital's Bhashantek area, which falls under the Dhaka-17 constituency-his electoral area. Ziaur Rahman Foundation Vice President and Tarique Rahman's wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, was also present at the rally. The event was organised by the Bhashantek Thana BNP.
At the beginning of his speech, Tarique Rahman invited several local voters-including a van puller and a student-onto the stage and spoke with them. According to their demands, residents of Bhashantek want rehabilitation for slum-dwellers, a call that was unanimously supported by those present at the rally.
Several senior BNP leaders attended the rally, including Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and Advisers to the Chairman Abdus Salam, Farhad Halim Donar and Nazim Uddin Alam, and Dhaka North BNP Convener Aminul Haque.
The rally began after Maghrib prayers with recitation from the Holy Quran. A large number of party leaders and activists joined the gathering. From the afternoon, leaders and activists of Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and other affiliated organisations had gathered at the BRP ground and nearby roads.
Separate seating arrangements were made for female leaders and activists at the electioneering rally.
To ensure security, members of the police, RAB, army, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed in and around the venue. Law-enforcement agencies closely monitored the overall situation.
"A festive atmosphere was seen in the area as Jubilant leaders and activists gathered for the rally," says a spot account of the rally.
