Opportunities there, long-term plan needed, says envoy

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 05: There are huge opportunities to boost trade and business between Bangladesh and Nepal and a long-term plan is needed to take the existing relationship between the two countries to the next level, said newly appointed Nepal's High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dr Banshidhar Mishra.
"If we can take long-term plans for export-import and also for investment, the trade and business will increase between the two neighbouring countries," he said.
The Nepalese envoy made the comments during a courtesy meeting with leaders of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) at the World Trade Centre (WTC) in the port city on Monday.
CCCI President Mahbubul Alam presided over the meeting.
Dr Mishra said the size of Bangladesh economy is getting bigger day by day.
Referring to Nepal, he said the Himalayan country had also achieved a remarkable GDP growth before the coronavirus outbreak.
"Good relationship with neighbouring countries is the most important factor for economic development, and Bangladesh is maintaining the friendly relationships with all its neighbours," said Dr Mishra, adding, "There are huge opportunities to work together in agriculture, tourism and other sectors."
CCCI directors Md Ahid Siraj Chowdhury (Swapan), Anjan Shekhor Das, Abdul Mannan Shohel, Tazmeem Mostafa Chowdhury, Sakeef Ahmed Salam, among others, were present at the meeting.
