Optical fibre cable line cut off again

COX'S BAZAR, Aug 27 (UNB): International telecommunications including internet services were disrupted as suspected miscreants cut off underground optical fibre cable at Eidgaon of Sadar Upazila Monday noon.
Cox's Bazar Submarine Landing Station sources said the optical line was severed in the area near Chokoria, some 40 kms off the resort district town, at about 2.30 pm.
The telecommunications with the external world were now being operated through satellite system, the T&T authorities said and sought cooperation of all in ensuring security of the important international communications network.
Bdnews24.com report adds: The Chittagong-Cox's Bazar fibre optic transmission link with the country's only submarine cable snapped again at 2:30 pm Monday, the BTTB source said.
In a statement, BTTB said the link snapped at Chokoria, some 120 kilometres off Chittagong towards Cox's Bazar, the second time it has gone down with in a week.
The telecoms system broke down earlier Wednesday, isolating Bangladesh from the rest of the world for 19 hours after suspected saboteurs cut off the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar underground optical fibre transmission link.
Monday's scene of incident is close to Wednesday's place of occurrence, but BTTB did not confirm if it was an act of sabotage.
