Oracle to open office in city to explore IT mkt potential

Oracle, a US based global software company, will open an office in Dhaka to explore the potential local IT market.
Regional Business Manager-Manufacturing, Retail and Distribution (MRD) South Asia Growth Economics (West) of Oracle Corporation Division, Sajjad Mustafa Syed told this to the FE in an exclusive interview at his hotel suite in Dhaka Wednesday.
He said currently, a few executives have been operating business in Bangladesh on behalf of Oracle. But, very soon a full-fledged business house of Oracle will be opened in Dhaka, he said.
He said Oracle is interested to prepare the voters' identity (ID) cards in Bangladesh, if the government selects the company.
He said Oracle has developed the software in Pakistan for birth registration and passport office.
Sajjad, a Pakistan born Oracle executive, said Bangladesh is a potential market for any IT company as the country is quickly heading towards full automation in banking, telecom and manufacturing sectors.
"We have achieved 250 per cent growth in our business this calendar year compared to previous business growth," Sajjad said.
He eyes 1000 per cent business growth of Oracle in the next year as they are gaining huge responses from different sectors like banking, telecom, manufacturing, textile and other IT related companies.
He said the major competitors of Oracle in Bangladesh are SAP, Microsoft and IBM.
The major local customers of the Oracle are Chevron, Lafarge Surma Cement, KAFCO and BRAC Bank.
"People have been choosing the services and products of Oracle mainly due to superiority of the products and cheaper prices of items," he said.
Oracle solution supports in the enterprises for various core business processes-financial management, supply-chain management, customer relationship management and human capital management, he said.
