Orange farming in 10 hill dists begins

CHITTAGONG, Aug 23: With a view to utilising the potentialities of orange cultivation in the country, orange farming has begun in 10 hill districts-Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban and seven other districts-involving Tk 200 million under the Orange Development Project (ODP).
This five-year long ODP will be run at government expense.
A total of 40 upazilas under the hill districts have been brought under the orange cultivation project which will continue until 2011, sources said.
Over 60,000 orange farmers and 1000 sub-assistant engineers will be given training on orange cultivation to make the programme a success, sources said.
Six packing houses and four nurseries would be set up for growing saplings from orange seeds, sources added.
