Osmani Nagar Thana OC dies during Sylhet clash

The officer-in-charge of Sylhet's Osmani Nagar Police Station died during a series of clashes between two rival groups of transport workers over establishing dominance in the area on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station. Police and hospital sources said Mostafizur Rahman died of cardiac arrest while a team from the police station, led by him, was trying to control the situation around 3pm dring a series of clashes between two rival groups of transport wokers over establishing dominance on Osmani Nagar Auto-rickshaw Stand at Goalabazar. An unspecified number of cops were among the injured. Most of the injured were rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital. Later, additional police force and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel were called in to quell the situation. The clashes also halted traffic in the area for more than 4 hours, according to a news agency.
