Our economy incurs huge loss

Saturday, 18 January 2014

Both the mainstream political parties are at daggers drawn and the rigidity and stubbornness of the parties are driving our country backward. Economists have predicted that our economy has incurred losses to the tune of billions of taka over the couple of months. It is an irreparable loss and it will take a few more years to recover. All the indicators of our economy show bleak pictures.
Election without BNP, the main opposition party, was also a voterless election and a very few people cast their votes. During the election we  saw stray incidents of violence. Many people died and sustained injuries in clashes with miscreants who wanted to foil the election. The minorities were attacked in various parts of the country and their houses were burnt to ashes since they voted in the election.
Patrol bombs were repeatedly thrown by criminal gangs, many people succumbed to death and became disabled forever. This cannot be democratic movement and should be stopped for good. Both the political parties termed the dialogue as the medium to end the political standoff. However, they showed unwillingness to initiate a dialogue. They are looking forward to foreign interference but some of the foreign initiatives have already failed.
Lingering the ongoing political violence means more losses of lives. We urge the political parties to reach a consensus on election time government. New formula should be adopted apart from the existing one and caretaker system so that a balance prevails.
