Our main goal is to regain democracy, says Fakhrul

Monday, 2 January 2012

BNP's spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed the hope on the New Year's Day that democracy will be 'regained' in 2012, reports bdnews24.com.
"The past three years were those of the government's failures…the years of people's disappointment," the acting secretary-general of the party said.
"Our main goal is to regain democracy. We think that the government will be overthrown through protests with the participation of general people," he added.
Mirza Fakhrul was talking to reporters after placing wreath at party founder Ziaur Rahman's grave in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to mark the 33rd founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the main opposition's student wing.
"Prices of essentials, fuel oil, power and gas increased several times. The law and order deteriorated. No new employment opportunity was created. They (the government) could not keep their pledges. They rather besieged democracy."
He urged the members of JCD to be more active in the anti-government movement.
BNP student affairs secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, among others, assisted Mirza Fakhrul.
