Outgoing Army chief meets PM

Outgoing Army chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office. Bhuiyan extended his sincere gratitude to the prime minister for giving necessary guidelines and support to the development of Bangladesh Army, said PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim while briefing reporters after the meeting. Sheikh Hasina, also the in-charge of the Ministry of Defence, thanked General Bhuiyan for successfully performing his responsibilities during his tenure in Bangladesh Army. The Army chief handed over two books to the prime minister – one is ‘Bangladesh Senabahinir Itihas’ (History of Bangladesh Army) and another is Muktijuddhe Bangladesh Senabahinir Obhijan’ (Operation of Bangladesh Army in the War of Liberation). Meanwhile, Lt Gen Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq has been made the new Army chief as Gen Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan goes on retirement on June 26, according to a news agency.
