Outlaw killed in 'cross-fire'

RAJSHAHI, Oct 18: Masud Rana alias Murgi Masud (26), a regional commander of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party ( PBCP-ML), was killed in a cross-fire with the Baghmara police at Pabnapara village Sunday morning.
Police said Murgi Masud, son of Nur Muhammad of village Ramrama of Baghmara thana, remained absconding since a crackdown started against the extremists last year.
Recently, Murgi Masud returned to his village and started organising his party. He, along with his armed cadres allegedly took part in police killing and arms looting incident at Taherpur recently.
On Thursday afternoon, the members of RAB-5, Baghmara camp arrested Murgi Masud from his village and after interrogation handed him to the Baghmara thana police.
Officer-in-charge of Baghmara thana Shahabuddin Khalifa said according to confessional statement of Murgi Masud, police went to Pabnapara village for recovery of arms on Friday morning. When the police team reached near the village, the cohorts of Murgi Masud attacked police with gun fire and the police also retaliated and Masud died in the cross fire.
