CHUADANGA, Sept 26 (UNB): Farid (30), son of Nawshad Ali of Laxmipur village under Damurhuda Upazila and a regional commander of Purbo Bangla Communist Party (ML), was killed in a shootout between his cohorts and police near Zia Khal Friday.
Police said they went to the area following a tip-off that a gang of 10-12 members of the party was holding a secret meeting at Zia Khal.
At one stage, the outlaw members opened fire on law enforcers, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gun battle.
Police recovered the body of Farid from the spot after the clash. A shutter gun and five rounds of bullet were also recovered from the spot.
Damurhuda police constable Mostafizur Rahman was also injured in the fight.
Police said Farid was wanted in a dozen of cases, including murder, extortion and robbery.
