Outlawed party activist gunned down, trader stabbed to death

PABNA, May 7: An outlawed party activist was gunned down and a businessman was stabbed to death in separate incidents in the district on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mithu Hossain, 30, son of Nannu Miah of village Narjana under Ekdanta union in Atghoria upazila and Islam Pramanik, 60, son of Jamal Pramanik of village Raut-Nagdahpara in Faridpur upazila under the district.
Of them, Mithu belonged to an outlawed party while Islam was a businessman of onion, garlic and chilli, police and locals said.
Officer-in-charge of Atghoria police station Md. Faruk Hossain said, a gang of miscreants belonging to outlawed Sharbahara party opened fire on Mithu at the Chachkia area of Atghoria while he was returning home from a meeting of an NGO at about 10:00 am on Thursday, leaving him dead on the spot.
The OC said adding that police is investigating into the incident.
Meanwhile, Islam was stabbed repeatedly on the embankment of the Dakkin Raut-Nagdahpara area at about 9pm on Wednesday while he was talking with the villagers, said Md. Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Faridpur police station.
Locals took the victim to Pabna Medical College Hospital but he died on the way to hospital, the OC said.
He was killed over the previous enmity the OC added.
Wife of the victim filed a case in connection with the incident. Police arrested one Milon Hossain, 29, in connection with the killing according to case statement.
The bodies were sent to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue today for autopsy. Previous enmity might be the reason behind the murder of the both incidents.
Two separate cases were filed with concerned police stations of those incidents.
