Outlawed party leaders killed in encounter

PABNA, Sept 5 (UNB): A regional leader of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (Janajuddha) was killed in a gunfight between his accomplices and police at Shimulchhara under Sadar Upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Hasan Koshai (42), of Laxmipur village in Atgharia upazila.
Police said, acting on secret information, they conducted a drive in the area at about 2am when the outlawed activists were holding a clandestine meeting at Shimulchhara Primary School field.
Sensing their presence the extremists opened fire on the law enforcers, who fired back in self defence that triggered a gun battle.
"Hasan was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot," police said.
One revolver and three rounds of bullet were also recovered from the spot.
Hasan was wanted in a dozen of cases, including four of murder, police said.
In Kushtia, an outlaw was killed in an encounter between his cohorts and police in Koya area under Kumarkhali Upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Murad Hossain alias Bhola Dacoit (38), an active member of outlawed Gono Bahini (Lal). He was wanted in number of cases including five of murder.
Acting on secret information that a gang of terrorists were holding a clandestine meeting at a Kindergarten, Kumarkhali police and a team of DB police conducted a joint drive in the area at about 3pm.
When the law enforcers reached near the nursery school, the terrorists opened fire on them forcing them to retaliate that triggered a gun battle.
At one stage of firing the terrorists fled the scene. Later, the body of Murad was retrieved from the spot.
