Outlets to be opened during Ramadan under govt, private initiatives

The government along with some business organisations will set up outlets to sell essentials to consumers at fair prices during the fasting month of Ramadan, reports UNB.
The decision was taken Thursday during a meeting of various business organisations and government officials at the Commerce Ministry conference room with its Adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman in the chair.
Under the government management, BDR will open 110 outlets in the capital and 80 outlets outside the capital. Ansar and VDP will set up 26 outlets in the capital and 20 outlets in Chittagong.
Besides, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will run eight mobile trucks in the capital and 15 mobile trucks in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna and other places to sell edible oil, sugar, onion and grams at fair prices.
BDR will sell 14 products, including rice, pulse, oil, milk, date, grams, ginger, garlic and onion, at fair prices. BDR will kick off their rice-selling programme from August 15, said an official release.
Under the private initiative, BKMEA will open five outlets while TK group four outlets, Meghna and Mostafa groups two outlets each and Prime Group one outlet. They will sell essentials at fair prices.
Besides, various business organisations, including FBCCI, Dhaka City Corporation (DCC), BGMEA, Dhaka Chamber and Metropolitan Chamber, will take various plans, including launching of outlets, during the Ramadan.
Commerce secretary Firoz Ahmed, Additional Secretary Golam Mostakim, TCB chairman M Ziaul Islam, BDR representative Colonel Mujib, Major Rawshanul Firoz, BKMEA president M Fazlul Haque, Metropolitan Chamber secretary Faruk Ahmed and officials of DCC, Bangladesh Bank, NBR, Ansar and VDP, M Shahidul Islam of Mostafa Group, M Shafiul Alam of TK Group, Sultan Ahmed of Prime Group and Sheikh Rakikul Alam of Meghna Group attended the meeting.
