Over 0.4m travellers used Darshona check-post in 2017

CHUADANGA, Jan 7: The number of travellers to and from India through Joynagar Check Post at Darshona of the district increased to over 0.42 million (40,20,981) in last year, officials said.
This was the highest number of travellers witnessed by the check-post in 30 years since installation of the customs and immigration at Darshona in 1986.
Darshona immigration sources said a total of 2,40,000 Bangladeshi nationals, 14,702 Indians and 103 people from other countries went to India from Bangladesh from January 1 to December 31 in 2017.
Besides, a total of 1,91,148 Bangladeshi nationals, 14,904 Indian nationals and 84 citizens of other countries came to Bangladesh from India through the Darshona check post in the same year.
Sources said a total of 1,18,837 Bangladeshi nationals, 13,981 Indians and 47 nationals from other countries went to India from Bangladesh in 2016 while 1,16,986 Bangladeshis, 13,438 Indians and 55 nationals from other countries came to Bangladesh from India through the check post that year.
Darshona Immigration Officer SM Abdul Alim said, "We are trying to give better services to the travellers."
He said that the quality of service will improve further after opening of a newly-constructed immigration building at the check post.
