Over 100 BNP men held across country

Police arrested over 100 leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations from separate places of the country Friday night and Saturday ahead of Tuesday's countrywide hartal, report agencies.
Besides, around 80 hartal supporters were injured in clashes with police in separate places of the country.
However, the BNP has claimed over three hundred opposition leaders and activists have been arrested around the country ahead of the November 30 hartal.
In a statement Saturday, the main opposition said the police arrested 327 leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate organisations including 135 from Rajshahi, 79 from Dhaka, 31 from Chittagong, 25 from Khulna and 21 from Mymensingh.
Party secretary general Khandker Delwar Hossain condemned such large scale arrests, saying "the fascist government's police forces are attacking peaceful processions and also conducting raids at the houses of the opposition leaders."
In Barisal, at least 30 leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations were injured in police baton charge on a procession brought out in the town in support of hartal.
Witnesses said when BNP leaders and activists led by ex MP Abul Hossain Khan and joint convener of district BNP unit Abul Kalam.
Shaheen tried to enter the district and city BNP office ahead of bringing out a procession at about 10:45 am, police obstructed them and chased them.
Police arrested BNP leader Mantu Khan and general secretary of ward 29 JCD unit Maniruzzaman.
When the BNP activists tried to bring out another procession at 11 am police charged batons on them to foil their attempt.
BNP leaders and activists also tried to bring out processions from some other places while police lobbed tear gas shells to disperse them and arrested a number of opposition party workers.
Additional police have been deployed at Sadar road, Fakir Bari road, Kakoli crossing and various strategic points.
In Mymensingh, at least 15 BNP men were injured during police action on a BNP rally brought out at Rambabu road in the district town Saturday evening.
Police arrested 22 BNP and its front organisation leaders and activists at that time.
In Pabna, Twenty people, including police, were injured during a clash with police in Iswardi Upazila headquarters of the district Saturday afternoon.
Local sources said as police obstructed BNP activists when they brought out a procession they got furious and pelted brickbats towards police, triggering a clash that left 20 people injured.
Police lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the BNP activists and arrested six people.
In Chittagong, 26 BNP leaders and activists were arrested from separate places of the city from Friday night to Saturday morning.
BNP general secretary Shahadat Hossain said police conducted drive in the houses of over 50 leaders and activists overnight.
Local BNP leaders including president of city BNP Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Shahadat Hossain condemned the mass arrest of BNP activists ahead of hartal.
In Kurigram, 14 BNP, Jubo Dal and JCD activists were held from sadar, Nageshwari and Bhurungamari upazilas of the district early Saturday.
Police said they launched drive at Palashbari, Chowdhuripara, Chamrar Gola, and Puraton Thana para areas of the town and arrested seven people including Jubo Dal organising secretary Insaf Ali while others were arrested from Bhurugamari and Nageshwari upazilas.
In Sylhet, police arrested two BNP leaders from Biswanath Upazila Friday night.
The arrested men are-assistant organising secretary Monayem Khan and ward level Jubo Dal leader Daimur Rahman.
In Sherpur, Detective Branch (DB) police arrested 11 BNP and its front organisation leaders and activists from various places early Saturday.
Sub-inspector Parvez Alam said they were arrested under anti-terrorism act.
In Khulna, three local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders were arrested from different areas in the city Friday midnight.
The arrested were identified as Kamal Hossain, Asraf Ali, and Akash Arif Milon.
Police said they have arrested the three local JCD leaders on suspicion of creating chaos ahead of hartal.
In Chapainawabganj, police picked up three BNP activists from a rally brought out in support of November 30 hartal.
