Over 1000 people sued for vandalism at WDB office

GAIBANDHA, Apr 22 (UNB): A case was filed Friday with Sadar thana against 1,000 unidentified people in connection with vandalism at local Water Development Board (WDB) office Thursday.
Abul Kalam Azad, Sub-assistant Engineer of WDB, filed the case.
Over 2,000 people of different areas of Saghata Upazila came to district town walking 36 kms on foot Thursday and laid siege to WDB office demanding protection of Saghata Upazila from erosion by the river Jamuna.
As they did not find any official including Executive Engineer Mir Mosharraf Hossain there, they turned violent and entered the office by breaking open the collapsible gate and ransacked furniture and documents.
Eleven employees and police Sub-inspector (SI) Yazdani were injured by brickbats in the melee.
Later, additional police rushed in and brought the situation under control.
