Over 4,500 find employment in retail sales

More than 4,500 individuals have secured employment in retail sales in reputed companies in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna and Sylhet after completing two months' training conducted by BRAC.
The candidates, including those with disabilities, have obtained job opportunities in companies like Bata, Apex, Shwapno, Meena Bazar and Artisan, reads a press statement.
To celebrate this accomplishment, the BRAC Skills Development Programme hosted an event styled 'Successful Careers in the Retail Sector for Youth' at a city hotel on Wednesday.
Social Development Foundation chairperson Md Abdus Samad, Comprehensive Village Development Programme project director and additional secretary Dr Md Alfaz Hossain, and National Skills Development Authority member and joint secretary Alif Rudaba were present as special guests.
BRAC Education, Skills Development, and Migration Programme director Safi Rahman Khan, BRAC Skills Development Programme associate director Tasmiah Rahman and BRAC Institute of Governance and Development executive director Dr Imran Matin, among others, spoke.
Additionally, 10 institutions were awarded crests in recognition of their contributions to providing employment and apprenticeship scope to the trainees.
The companies are Miniso, Meena Bazaar, Artisan Outfitters Ltd, Bata, Amana Big Bazaar, Unimart, Shwapno, Swadesh Palli, Apex Footwear Ltd and Mirror.
This training-employment initiative involved more than 150 private sector partners, according to the statement.
It says the retail sector stands out as one of the most promising sectors in the economy employing more than 6.0 million people.
The project styled 'Progressing the Retail Sector by Improving Decent Employment' has been funded by IKEA Foundation and UBS Optimus Foundation.
This marks the first retail sales training module in Bangladesh to receive government recognition.
