Over 50 hurt in Sylhet clash

SYLHET, Oct 27 (UNB): Over 50 people including women were injured in a bloody clash over establishing supremacy at Asampur village in Chhatak Upazila on Thursday.
Police said there was a longstanding dispute between Gias Uddin Londoni and Daraj Mia over establishing supremacy in the area.
An altercation ensued when the people of Daraj Mia went to Gias to realize the money for a mosque of their village on Wednesday.
Later, supporters of Gias Uddin beat up Shyamol (18), nephew of the mutwalli of the mosque at night.
In a sequel to the incident, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving over 40 people injured from both sides in the morning.
Ten rounds of bullet were exchanged between the two groups during the clash, leaving 10 more people wounded.
The bullet-hit people were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital while the rest to local Koitok hospital.
