Over 500 sued for torching train in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Nov 4 (UNB): Two cases were filed early Friday with Bhairab GRP thana accusing over 500 unnamed people of torching 10 bogies (compartments) of a train Wednesday in protest against the killing of poura mayor Lokman Hossain.
Promising Awami League (AL) leader Lokman Hossain (35), elected twice mayor of Narsingdi Municipality, was gunned down by masked gunmen in the district AL office Tuesday night.
Outraged by the killing, local people torched the Kishoreganj-bound Egarosindur train at Bashail in the district town Wednesday morning.
Earlier, a case was filed against 14 people, including Salahuddin Ahmed Bachchu, a businessman and younger brother of Posts and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju in connection with the killing of Lokman Hossain Thursday midnight.
Quamrul Islam, younger brother of the slain mayor, filed the case against 12 AL and two BNP leaders at midnight with Sadar thana police naming Bachchu as the main accused.
The other accused are Abdul Matin Sarkar, a former municipality mayor and former vice-president of Narsingdi district AL, Mobarok Hossain Moba, deputy publicity secretary of district AL, Montaz Uddin Bhuiyan, president of Narsingdi city AL and Nurul Islam, Sadar Upazila BNP general secretary.
Local Jubo League leaders Monwar Hossain Khan Moin and Hiron Mia, Tarek Ahmed, BNP district unit former organising secretary, Ashraf Hossain Sarkar, president of city Jubo League, Masudur Rahman Murad, assistant personal secretary of Telecommunications Minister Raju, Mia Mohammad Manjur, former VP of Narsingdi Government College students union and Jubo League leader, local AL leaders -- Amir Hossain Amu and Mamun and Kabir Sarker, a Jubo League activist.
But Quamrul did not include the name of Khairul Kabir Khokon, president of BNP Narsingdi district unit, who was arrested from his Dhaka residence in Khilgaon area Wednesday around 2:50am, hours after Lokman was gunned down.
