POSTAL VOTING

Over 75,000 NRBs register since Nov 18

FE REPORT | Saturday, 29 November 2025

Over 75,000 non-resident Bangladeshi (NRB) voters registered for postal voting, through a hybrid platform developed by the Election Commission (EC), ahead of the upcoming national election.
According to the latest data on the Out-of-Country Voting (OCV) portal, a total of 75,377 NRBs completed registration as of Friday 8.00 pm.
On November 18, the EC launched the 'Postal Vote BD' app. In the opening days voters from some selected countries could access the app. Later, the registration app was opened to everyone on Thursday. The registration deadline is December 18.
Until now, the United States led the registration tally with 14,625 voters, followed by South Korea (9,189), Canada (7,231), Australia (6,734), and Japan (6,585).
Singapore (4,641) and South Africa (4,554) also reported substantial enrolments, reflecting strong interest of expatriates in participating in the electoral process from abroad.
The European nations showed notable engagement as well. The United Kingdom registered 3,111 voters, Italy 2,320, Germany 1,264, France 1,213, and Portugal 1,269. China accounted for 1,805 registrations, while the Maldives recorded 1,422, and Saudi Arabia 1,060.
Overall, 63,534 men and 11,843 women have registered for postal voting.
The EC's hybrid system - combining online registration, digital verification, and postal ballot dispatch - marks the first large-scale attempt to integrate overseas citizens into the electoral framework.
With registrations nearly finalised, the EC is preparing to send ballots to approved voters, as the national election comes closer.
