Over Tk 50m earned from cattle corridors, says Addl DG, BGB

JESSORE, May 12: The additional director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and also south-east regional commander, Brigadier General DSM Shahidul Islam told journalists that smuggling of cattle decreased sharply following steps taken by the Indian government to check such smuggling into Bangladesh.
Bangladesh government earned Tk 5, 22, 87,500 as revenue from January to April, 2015 from the cattle corridors in the region. But Tk 30, 38, 03,500 was earned as revenue in 2014 during the same period of time.
He also informed that border killings have been increased in the south-west region as the Indian government has taken steps to check cattle smuggling recently.
The Indian Border Security Force killed seven Bangladeshis and wounded nine others while one Indian national was also killed by the force in the first four months of 2015.
The high official of Border Guard Bangladesh unveiled the information in a view exchange meeting with journalist at his Jhumjhumpur based office on Tuesday noon.
