Overall flood situation improves

Friday, 31 August 2007

The overall situation in the flood-hit areas has further improved as all the major rivers, including those of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna and the Ganges-Padma basins receded. Although Sylhet district is experiencing flashflood, the situation is likely to start improving in the next 24 to 48 hours beginning from 6:00 pm Thursday, according to a Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre press release. The flood situation in the south-central districts of Faridpur, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Gopalganj and Chandpur, and Dhaka would further improve as the Padma was receding. —BSS
