'Overall focus is on nat'l polls, not any other polls'

The overall focus of the Election Commission is on the national election not any other election, said Election Commissioner (EC) Brig Gen (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah on Sunday, reports UNB.
"I would like to say categorically that our overall focus is on the national election. It would not be a right thing to hold any event that would disrupt the national election," he said at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital.
Md Sanaullah said this while replying to a question whether this commission will hold the local body elections as test case before the next national election from reporters after the commission's meeting chaired by Chief Election Commission AMM Nasir Uddin.
About the proposal that came from different quarters over holding the elections in all the types of local bodies simultaneously, the commissioner said the proposal is not realistic.
The present commission in the meeting also decided to take an initiative to keep the national identity (NID) activities under the Election Commission cancelling the national identity registration act 2023 and restoring the related act of 2010, he said.
