Oxfam, the leading worldwide development organisation, has been selected as the winner of best film produced in Bangladesh on Disaster Risk Reduction at the 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) held in Bangkok recently, reports UNB.
Recognising the value of short film as instruments for social change, Thailand as the host of the 6th AMCDRR in 2014 together with Thai Public Broadcasting Service, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction launched the video competition under the theme, 'Promoting Investment for Resilient Nations and Communities'. The competition was open for the Asia Pacific Region.
Abdul Quayyum, Media and Communications Coordinator for Oxfam in Bangladesh, said, "This award is an acknowledgment of all the hard works that Oxfam has been doing in Bangladesh since 1971 in responding to disasters."
"The film shows how communities are preparing for floods in Bangladesh. Every year, these vulnerable river communities are hit hard by the climate and Oxfam is working to make the communities resilient," he added.
The 6th AMCDRR was hosted by the Royal Thai government in collaboration with UNISDR, said an Oxfam press release.
