Oxfam, ECHO help clean up water sources in cyclone-hit districts

Sunday, 25 November 2007

Oxfam and the European Commission Humanitarian Aid Directorate General (ECHO) have joined hands responding to the immediate water and sanitation needs of cyclone-hit families in four worst affected southern districts.
Over 1,200 families in the four districts-Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Patuakhali and Barguna-have already engaged in the clean-up work through a "cash for work" porgramme to clear their home areas and drinking water sources from debris and carcasses.
Following the cyclone, Oxfam and its partner organisations helped evacuate thousands of people to cyclone shelter and were doing early warning on an extensive scale.
