Pabna shooting death toll rises to 4

A local Jubo League leader, who sustained injuries in an attack at Pushpapara Bazar under Ataikula Police Station in Pabna on Saturday night, died on Sunday morning, raising the death toll from the incident to four. The dead is Md Rafiqul Islam, a leader of Ataikula than unit of Jubo League and son of Sirajul Islam of Dharmagram. Three leaders of the local unit of Awami League and its front organisations - Sultan, 37, Fazlu, 35, and Sumon, 38, - were chopped with sharp weapons and then shot dead and two others injured in the attack by a gang of miscreants at Pushpapara Bazar on Pabna-Nagarbari highway around 8:30pm on Saturday. Injured Rafiqul and Mamoon were admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital. Doctors referred Rafiqul to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated. Rafiqul succumbed to his injuries on way to Dhaka around 6:00am, according to a news agency.
