The government is going to hire another foreign consultancy to look after the management aspect of the Padma Bridge project.
Officials said the UK-based firm has qualified as the management-support consultancy (MSC) among three shortlisted bidders. Of the three firms, two, however, vied for the job.
The Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) is likely to send proposal to the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase this week for its approval for appointing the firm to work as MSC.
The Padma Multipurpose Bridge (PMB) project has five components and those are now being supervised by two construction- supervision consultants.
Earlier, the project office took consultancy support in preparing detailed design and tender documents and used the services of the panel of experts (PoE) to take decisions regarding construction of the 6.15-kilometre road-cum-rail bridge, river training, approach road construction at both end of the bridge and development of service area.
High Pan Rendal, Palmar of the UK has qualified for the MSC work competing with Nippon Koei of Japan.
Project Director (PD) Shafiqul Islam said the main MSC job is to coordinate works and decisions of five construction works in favour of the government.
"The MSC will work in favour of the PD if any unusual claim or issue is raised by these contractors and consultants," he told the FE.
The Padma Bridge-like giant projects usually need support of MSC to resolve day-to-day claims and issues in connection with contractors and CSC.
