Prime Minister's Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman on Tuesday said the construction work on the Multipurpose Padma Bridge will be completed under the current government.
"The work on the Padma Bridge has begun and it will be completed during the tenure of the present government," he said while addressing at a views-exchange meeting in the city, reports UNB.
Greater Khulna Unnayan Sangram Samannay Parishad organised the views-exchange meeting on the development of the neglected south and south-western region.
Mr Rahman said once the Padma Bridge is constructed, it will take almost same time to travel from Dhaka to Mongla as from Dhaka to Chittagong.
He also described many projects taken by the government for the development of the greater Khulna. "The government has already taken an initiative to make Mongla Port more vibrant."
Speaking at the programme, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra urged all to work together for the development of greater Khulna.
He also stressed the need for forming a board for the development of the coastal areas in Khulna as people of the costal belt are vulnerable to natural calamities.
Mostak Ahmed, MP, from Satkhira-2 constituency, demanded of the government to complete construction of the Padma Bridge under the present tenure and turning Mongla and Bhomra ports to full-fledged ones.
