KOLKATA, Dec 2 (Commodity Online): Pakistan and India are doing some confidence building measures in the tea front. As part of this, Pakistan's Tapal Tea group is scouting for a partner in India to enter into strategic alliance.
The company is basically looking for blending partner. Tapal is planning to make Assam tea an integral component of its blends to add value but at a price point.
The company officials said preliminary discussions have taken place with several companies.
According to the Pakistan firm's officials, India could be a major supplier of tea to Pakistan which was a CTC market.
India was also a major producer of CTC tea. Tea consumption in Pakistan was growing at around three per cent per annum.
Also, the demand for quality tea, similar to the North Indian varieties such as Darjeeling and Assam, was slowly but steadily rising.
