'Pakhi Boron Utsab' at Meghna estuary starts

BARISAL, Jan 7(UNB): 'Pakhi Boron Utsav' organised by Bangladesh Nature Conservation Committee for welcoming the guest birds in Meghna estuary started in Lalmohan upazila town in Bhola Friday.
A cultural function and painting competition of children about birds were arranged on the occasion.
Prize giving ceremony and "Pakhir Kotha', dialogue about birds, "Praner Pakhi', musical drama and drama 'Abokkhoy' were held by cultural activists of Lalmohon unit of BNCC at Lalmohon Public Library in the evening.
'Pakhi Boron Utsav' is being organised at Lalmohon for the last 11 years to make people conscious in preventing illegal catching, killing, poaching of guest birds. Every year with the beginning of the winter season thousands of guest birds arrive in the char lands of the river Meghna in Bhola and the coastal areas of the Bay of Bengal from the Siberian region.
