Pakistan opposition MPs resign

Wednesday, 3 October 2007

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2 (AFP): Around 80 Pakistani opposition MPs resigned from parliament Tuesday in protest at President Pervez Musharraf's plans to seek re-election, state television showed.
The lawmakers from the anti-Musharraf Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy handed in their resignations to the speaker of the national assembly, the lower house of parliament.
"We are handing over the resignations today because we consider the election of the president is illegal and unconstititional," senior alliance member Liaquat Baloch said, before he was cut short by the speaker.
