NEW YORK, April 29: The news of China helping Pakistan to have two civilian nuclear reactors will certainly cause a flutter in both Washington a close ally of Islamabad and in New Delhi. Neither has given any reaction so far on the issue.
The United States in the meanwhile patched up its differences with Israel over later's building new settlements in the occupied areas despite the White House and State Department pleas not to do so. United States has persistently insisted on Israel refraining from doing anything that would thwart Middle-East peace process Israel's defence minister Ehud Barak is making a high profile visit to Washington. He had meetings with President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Defence Secretary Robert Gates. The message is clear the special relationship between Israel and the United States are unbreakable, the New York Times quoted Ehud Barak as saying.
The decision to supply reactor to Pakistan reflects China's growing diplomatic confidence. It also underscores its views of Pakistan as a prized South Asian strategic partner, a reputed paper said. Chinese companies have began construction of two 650 MW reactors in Chasma, Punjab. The reactors will be ready for commissioning next year. Many say China has given to Pakistan what the US has given to India.
