KARACHI, Mar 4 (Commodity Online): Pakistan is on a trajectory to achieve self-sufficiency in oil and oil seed front, say a few reports.
According to Pakistan Federal Minister for Food & Agriculture Mir Israrullah, the country has sown sunflower seeds on 1045000 acres (where sowing is in progress), while canola on 233000 acres.
The targets of 1145000 acres had been fixed for sunflower while a target of 260000 acres had been fixed for canola, reported Daily Times.
If everything goes well, estimated production of 711000 tons and 146000 tons will be achieved for both crops. The government is also working to convert olive trees, now grown in the wild fruit bearing plants and set up new olive orchards.
