Pakistan urged to increase imports from Bangladesh

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin on Sunday urged the Pakistan High Commissioner to take an initiative to import more products from Bangladesh.
He made the call when Pakistan High Commissioner Syed Ahmed Maroof met him in his office at the Secretariat on Sunday, reports UNB.
During the meeting, they thoroughly discussed bilateral trade between the two countries and explored potential opportunities for future trade.
The Commerce Adviser said, "Bangladesh's main agricultural crop production is time-bound, and we have to plan imports by combining production data with consumption data."
"We have started the process of determining the quantity of products required for import," he added.
Sheikh Bashir Uddin emphasised that there is an opportunity for both countries to benefit by increasing the volume of bilateral trade. While Bangladesh imports goods from Pakistan, it is also exporting them to Pakistan on a limited scale.
The Pakistan High Commissioner said various goods are mainly exported from Pakistan to Middle Eastern countries. However, Pakistan's exports to Bangladesh have increased in recent times.
"If a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed between the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) and the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), Pakistan will supply goods as required," he added.
