LONDON, July 16 (Reuters):The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Saturday it has asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to develop a way to manage the growth of the lucrative Twenty20 leagues with growing concerns about its impact on the sports calendar.
South Africa this week withdrew from a two-way three-match one-night series in Australia in January as it faces their new domestic Twenty20 competition.
The next cycle of the Future Tours Program (FTP), which specifies which national teams play where and when, is due to be confirmed later this month at the annual conference of the ICC, the global governing body, in Birmingham.
Franchise cricket is likely to dominate the busy international calendar, which also includes ICC events such as world championships in all formats.
"The rise of franchised cricket is impacting an already crowded international cricket calendar," said PCB chief executive Faisal Hasnain. "The PCB is concerned about this development and wants the ICC to formulate a strategy on this matter.
