Pakistani held with Rs 11.7m at airport

Customs officials arrested a Pakistani national and recovered 11.7 million (1.17 crore) Indian rupees from his possession at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city on Thursday. Assistant Commissioner (Customs) Ruhul Amin said Pakistani national Mohammad Selim reached the airport by a flight of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) from Karachi around 12:15 pm. When Selim received his luggage from the conveyor belt, customs officials challenged him and found the presence of foreign currencies after scanning a box containing a tea table, Ruhul Amin said. The Indian rupees were kept hidden inside the tea table, he added. Selim was detained and he would be handed over to the Airport police on completion of the legal procedures, he said.    — UNB
