Pandemic not over yet
Wednesday, 30 March 2022
Zero is a terrible number when it is found on examination mark sheets and in bank balances but it is surely a most welcome number on Covid statistics lists. For past few days until Monday, Bangladesh was reporting zero Covid-19 deaths with less than 100 new positive cases. And the infection rates are also staying below two per cent. The ongoing mass vaccination campaigns certainly have a part to play in this, also it is assumed that some form of herd immunity has developed among the population.
Though we have already ended all Covid containment measures following a visible drop in the number of positive cases in the country, the curtains do not seem to have entirely dropped. There is another wave raging across several nations. And Bangladesh may not remain untouched by it. China began its largest coronavirus lockdown in two years, as millions of people in the financial hub of Shanghai have reportedly been confined to their homes to curb an ongoing outbreak of the virus. Some experts using mathematical models are predicting that it may hit us soon, but the impact would be mitigated if we continue to observe basic safety protocols.
