Papaya farming changes fate of Naogaon farmer

NAOGAON, May 23 (BSS): A marginal farmer of Naogaon district has built his own fortune by farming papaya, a tropical sweet fruit and vegetable, on his land.
Saidur Rahman (50), once a small trader of papaya, has become well off by farming the fruit on his 12 bighas of land at Kashimpur village under Raninagar Upazila of the district.
He is now earning Tk 0.20 million to Tk 0.30 million annually as profit from papaya farming.
Mr Rahman told the news agency that papaya of his farm is now being exported to foreign markets after meeting the local demand. At present at least 20 workers are working in his papaya farm.
SM Ghulam Sarwar, an agriculture official of Raninagar Upazila, said Mr Rahman's hard work brought him fortune. He has become an ideal and economically solvent farmer of the upazila.
The upazila agriculture office has provided all sorts of cooperation to Mr Rahman to boost production.
