Paper godown gutted in city fire

A paper godown was gutted by a fire at KP Ghosh Street under Bangshal Police Station in the city’s old part on Sunday. Fire Service sources said the fire originated at the warehouse on the ground floor of a five-storey building from an electric short circuit at about 3:10 pm and soon spread to the upper floor. Being informed, three firefighting units from Sadarghat and Phulbaria stations rushed in and doused the flame after one hour of frantic efforts. Six firefighters were also injured while extinguishing the blaze. Shahin Ahmed, owner of the godown, claimed that the losses caused by the fire could go up to Tk 60 lakh, according to a news agency.
