SIRAJGANJ, March 25: Abnormal price hike of white writing paper is causing suffering to the poor guardians of the students of Sirajganj district.
The price of white paper went up abnormally in the district since the announcement of the budget last year, paper traders in different local markets said.
One ream or 500 sheets of Basundhara brand of 45 grams of white paper is being sold for Tk 300. Earlier it was Tk 240.
The 55 grams paper sells for Tk 350 against the previous rate of Tk 250 per ream.
Karnaphuli brand paper shot up to Tk 375 which used to be Tk 250 before. The prices of other types of paper have also increased.
Local guardians are suffering due to the price hike of paper since they are unable to meet the demand of the students.
A white paper trader of Sirajganj told the FE correspondent that they have to buy paper from Dhaka at a high rate.
However, some traders also create artificial crises of paper at the time of examinations, guardians alleged.
