Interim govt's 133 ordinances
Parliament sends all to spl committee for vetting
FE REPORT | Monday, 16 March 2026
A slew of 133 ordinances issued during the tenure of the post-uprising interim government were sent to a special parliamentary committee for a review on Sunday.
The committee has been asked to examine the ordinances and submit the vetting report to parliament by April 2.
The proposal to send the ordinances to the committee was placed by law minister Asaduzzaman during Sunday's parliamentary sitting, which began at 11am under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
According to the constitution, any ordinance promulgated by the president must be placed in the house at the first sitting of parliament after it is issued.
In line with that requirement, the law minister formally presented the ordinances during the opening meeting of the 13th parliament's first session last Thursday.
Ordinarily, draft laws are scrutinised by standing committees linked to the relevant ministries before being reported back to parliament.
However, such ministry-related parliamentary committees have not yet been formed in the new legislature.
To address the backlog, lawmakers established a special committee during the first meeting of the new parliament to examine the ordinances issued during the interim administration following the 2024 uprising.
The committee will now review the measures and recommend whether they should be "approved, amended or allowed to lapse", before submitting its findings to the house early next month.
