Sylhet Division’s road links with the rest of Bangladesh has been disrupted after 2 organisations of owners and workers enforced a transport strike. Sylhet District Road Transport Owner-Worker Unity Council and Transport Owner-Worker Resistance Committee are pressing for a 7-point-demand. All long-haul and inter-district bus services have stopped from Tuesday 6:00am due to the strike. That caused suffering for long-haul passengers. The committee’s chief Jamir Ahmed said they have handed a memorandum of 7-point charter of demands to the divisional commissioner on October 27. They set Nov 5 as deadline to start negotiations with the authorities on their demands. But as it was not met, the indefinite strike was enforced from Tuesday morning. ‘We will continue the movement until our demands are met,’ he said. The 2 organisations had called a strike on Oct 19 for the same reason, according to a news agency.
