Passport verification process
Sunday, 20 October 2019
Police verification is mandatory for securing a new passport and the logic behind this is that the authorities need to check authenticity of the applicant and his/her whereabouts. This process actually involves cost, though unofficial. In today's context, there is no justification of such verification which consumes time. When both birth certificate and national identity card (NID) contain all required information of a citizen, and when these are verifiable online, why is police verification required for issuance of passport? People often suffer for this process, especially when there is a miscommunication or even accidental delay. We strongly recommend this system should be abolished immediately.
