Path cleared for Suchitra museum

Friday, 11 July 2014

An Appellate Division bench of the Supreme Court has directed the authorities concerned take over the ancestral house of Suchitra Sen at Hemsagar Lane in Pabna’s Gopalpur area, and turn it into a museum without any further delay. The Appellate bench under Justice SK Sinha has passed the verdict. The verdict insists on turning Suchitra Sen’s paternal house into a museum dedicated to the memory of the film legend. The verdict says no time should be wasted to make this proposed museum a reality. The bench further says those occupying Sen’s ancestral house – Imam Ghazali Institute – must be evicted immediately if that has not already happened. Earlier, two writ petitions were filed on the issue. One was filed by the Imam Ghazali Institute’s Ayub Hossain Khan in 2009 to maintain possession of Sen’s ancestral house and the other pleading to convert the house into a museum was filed by the Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) in 2011, according to bdnews24.com.
