BRAHMANBARIA, Sept 28: Owners of unauthorized diagnostic centres across the district are cheating innocent patients capitalizing on their helplessness.
Patients have to pay 30 to 50 percent more money to the owners of those centres in the district for pathological tests, ultrasonogram and X-ray.
It is alleged that the owners of those centres pay commission to the doctors regularly. They pay 40 to 50 percent commission to the doctors for referring patients to the centres, sources added.
About 50 to 60 percent test reports done by those centers have been proved wrong, a source told the FE correspondent recently.
The mushroom growth of unauthorized diagnostic centres and pathological laboratories in eight upazilas of the district has resulted in more people getting wrong treatment.
In the district town, most of the centres are situated in Sadar Hospital Road, Jail Road, Halder Para, Tanker Par, Paik Para, Medda, CO office Road, Tofail Azam Road, Maidda Para, Munsef Para Cour Road, Komershil More, Bhadughar and Kawtali Areas.
There are 60 diagnostic centers or pathological laboratories in those areas having no necessary equipment and radiologist, imaging specialist or experienced pathologists.
As a result, the patients are being deprived of getting accurate pathological and laboratory test results.
It is also alleged that most of those centres are doing business without any license. In most cases, technicians of those centres examine blood, urine and stool of the patients.
However, local people have urged the government to take immediate remedial steps in this connection.
