Dhaka Metropolitan Archbishop Patrick D'Rozario has received the prestigious 'pallium,' which makes him the top priest of the country's Roman Catholic Church.
He was crowned with the title after Pope Benedict XVI tapped him for the job last year and awarded the pallium, known as the last stage of the appointment as archbishop.
The pallium is a liturgical badge of the archbishop made of white wool, which symbolises the office of the archbishop, particularly their bond and shared responsibility with the pope to be pastors in their regions.
A 14-member delegation led by Patrick D'Rozario left Dhaka recently for Italy to attend the award ceremony, said a statement.
Ambassador of Bangladesh to Vatican City Md Abdul Hannan, director general of NIPORT Dr Selina Afroz, communication professional Aloysius Milon Khan and other members of the Bangladesh delegation were present on the occasion.
This year a total of 47 metropolitan archbishops from across the world were vested with the honour.
Born in Barisal in 1943, Mr D'Rozario took over the mantle from his predecessor Paulinus Costa.
The 68-year-old cleric had served as bishops of Rajshahi and Chittagong before being named the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Bangladesh last year.
