Tuesday, 9 December 2014

Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia river route resumed after over 8 hours of disruption caused by dense fog on Tuesday morning. Salauddin, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha Ghat (terminal), said they kept suspended ferry services and plying of the watercraft from 1:00am to 9:00am due to blurred visibility for dense fog. Several thousand vehicles with huge passengers remained stranded at Paturia Ghat in Manikganj and Rajbari’s Daulatdia ferry terminal. Four ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers were kept anchored at Daulatdia and five ferries at Paturia. Besides, five ferries lay motionless in the middle of Padma River. Passengers suffered as a good number of vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the waterways for crossing. Ferry services on the important route resumed around 9:00am as fog started disappearing after the sunrise, according to a news agency.
