Paturia ferry crossings resume

Saturday, 27 December 2014

Ferry services in the Paturia-Daulatdia river route have resumed after a 7-hour suspension due to dense fog which blanketed the important waterways from Manikganj’s Paturia to Daulatdia under Goalanda Upazila of Rajbari. The crossings had been halted around 10pm on Friday to prevent accidents because of poor visibility. Shafiqul Islam, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) manager at the Daulatdia Ferry Ghat, said that ferry services resumed around 5am on Saturday. Several ferries, anchored in the middle of Padma River, resumed journey as conditions improved. Hundreds of cars had been stuck on either side of the pier while passengers suffered in the biting cold. But the river crossings were gathering pace after the fog cleared following sunrise, according to a news agency.
