Paturia-Kazirhat ferries suspended

Saturday, 4 August 2007

Dhaka, Aug 3 (bdnews24.com) – Roiling floodwaters Friday night forced ferry services between Paturia and Kazirhat in Manikganj to suspend and threatened the services between Paturia and Daulatdia. Deluge inundated Dhaka-Aricha highway at four points and engulfed two bridges, halving traffic to some 1,500 vehicles against the usual 3000, Manikganj correspondent said. "Paturia-Kazirhat ferry service has been suspended as floods worsened," Shahdat Hossain, a deputy general manager of Bangaldesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), told bdnews24.com. Traffic movement on the highway would come to a halt if floodwaters increased by a couple of inches at the inundated points and bridges, he said.
